Electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) attempts to image the permittivity distribution of an object by measuring the electrical capacitance between sets of electrodes placed around its periphery. Image reconstruction in ECT is a nonlinear ill-posed inverse problem, and regularization methods are needed to stabilize this inverse problem. The reconstruction of complex shapes (sharp edges) and ab...

The main objective of this study was to investigate whether the sex ratio at birth (SRB, male proportion) alter in Iraq during its war against Iran (1980-1988). Here we compared 785 births (348 males, 437 females) during 1980-1989 with 1144 births (655 males, 489 females) before 1980 and 2914 births (1496 males, 1418 females) after 1989 in Fallujah, Iraq. متن کاملPaxos at war
The optimistic latency of Byzantine Paxos can be reduced from three communication steps to two, without using public-key cryptography. This is done by making a decision when more than (n + 3f)/2 acceptors report to have received the same proposal from the leader, with n being the total number of acceptors and f the number of the faulty ones. No further improvement in latency is possible, becaus...

Generally, in DNA sequence alignment, we have chosen the substitution matrix δ by assigning a match cost and a mismatch cost. With protein sequences, the situation is more complicated: in some situations, some amino acids are largely interchangeable, and in others, an exchange completely changes the structure and function of the resultant protein. In this sense, all mismatches are not created e...
